If you’re thinking of lightening your hair, we’ve got you covered. Going from brunette to blonde doesn’t have to be hard, especially with us.
Here’s our advice:
Hair Analysis
Be real about the current condition of your hair. If you’ve never coloured your hair before, you’re in luck because it’s a whole lot easier to go from brown to blonde. If your hair is already dyed, you’ll most probably need to have your colour stripped and lifted by one of our colour specialists which adds to the process.
Condition
To go lighter, your hair already needs to be in tip top healthy shape. This means booking yourself in for some in-salon and at home treatments in the lead up to changing colour. Our expert salon staff will be able to advise which treatment will be best for you after they analyse your hair.
Go gradually
Patience is the key when going from dark hair to light. We often recommend going gradually and lightening it over time. Every head of hair is different so you can’t put a time frame on it but going gradually will definitely help the integrity of your strands. Perhaps start with streaking or balayage. You’ll be happy you waited.
Be committed
Going blonde is a big commitment that requires patience and continuous maintenance. If you’re naturally dark you will start to get regrowth so will need regular salon appointments every 6-8 weeks. Breakage on the ends is also common so you will need to book in for regular trims and treatments.
Use a shampoo and conditioner formulated for blonde hair
You don’t want to ruin your hair by using the wrong shampoo and conditioner when you go home. Check out our article on caring for blonde coloured hair. You will need to switch to a shampoo and conditioner formulated to nourish your blonde locks. We often recommend Olaplex No.4 and No.5 for this (which follows on from an in-salon Olaplex treatment), and also Kevin Murphy Blonde Angel Wash which is a lavender-infused, colour enhancing shampoo that is perfect for all tones of blonde, even grey. The Kevin Murphy conditioners contain Shea and Murumuru butters to smooth and hydrate hair and keep your blonde looking bright, healthy and shiny!
Go easy with styling tools
Blondes need to me more mindful around using heating tools as they can be extremely drying and cause hair breakage. We would advise to give heating tools a break more often and embrace your natural style.
If you’ve nailed your blonde hair, take your hair to the next level with a pastel wash. Dusty Pink adds a fun twist and will last anywhere from 8-20 washes. Ideal for those wanting fashion forward and super fun results.
