Going blonde can be both super empowering and also high-maintenance, therefore it’s important you’re equipped with the right products and advice to ensure your blonde is kept healthy and glossy all year round.
At Indie Sky + Co we specialise in colouring hair blonde so we thought we would share our top tips for caring for your blonde after your session:
Add an in-salon Olaplex treatment
One of the best things you can do for your new blonde colour is actually something before you even leave the salon. At Indie Sky + Co we recommend and use Olaplex, which reconnects broken bonds in the hair. In-salon, and directly after your colour, we use Olaplex No.1 and No.2. We then supply you with Olapelx No.3 to take home and use 1-2 times a week.
Use a shampoo and conditioner formulated for blonde hair
Blonde hair needs all the nourishment and protection it can get so the first thing after you colour your hair is to switch to a shampoo and conditioner formulated to nourish your blonde locks. Our Kevin Murphy Blonde Angel Wash is a lavender-infused, colour enhancing shampoo that takes on all tones of blonde – from creamy to platinum and everything in between. With the help of added optical brighteners, it rescues dull colour instantly. If, after your in-salon treatment, you’re completely in love with Olaplex, we also sell their No.4 and No.5 formulas which are a take home shampoo and conditioner. Our salon staff can help you work out which product is right for you.
Treatment is so important
Going blonde will weaken hair, so regular treatment is so important and should be done every week. Use the Olaplex No.3 DIY especially for blonde coloured hair. There are other products you can also use as well as this. We love Kevin Murphy’s Leave In Repair, a nourishing leave-in treatment to repair and restore damage where it is most needed helping to repair and seal the cuticles. Always rinse out thoroughly after a treatment and then style accordingly. You can book in for an in-salon hair treatment to lock in extra nourishment and moisture as well, when you need it or if you have an event coming up.
Go easy with styling tools
Heating tools can be extremely drying and cause hair breakage so it may be wise to give your blonde hair a break every so often. Embrace your natural style whether that’s curly or straight, or opt for an up-do. You don’t need straighteners and curlers to look good! Au naturale can be just as great - especially if your colour is en pointe.
Protect your colour
Similarly to heating tools, the sun’s rays equally can cause dryness and colour to fade. Make sure to not spend too much time in the sun or as your mother would probably say, don’t forget your hat.
Likewise, blondes run the risk of their hair turning green when swimming in a chlorinated pool. Not going under water or wearing a swimming a cap is an option, otherwise apply a conditioner before entering the pool and be sure to wash your hair as soon as you come out of the water.
Book in for regular trims
Keep your ends in check by booking for a trim every 4-6 weeks to ensure your blonde mane is thick and luscious. Regrowth is also expected if you are not a natural blonde, so having your roots done on a regular basis must also be taken into consideration.
