Special Occasion Make-up Tips
We don’t just do hair at Indie Sky and Co. Did you know we also do spray tans and make-up. Formal and bridal make-up are two of our favourite looks to create as we understand the importance of getting it right for your special day or night.
With so many looks to go for, we like to create something that best showcases you. Our professional team are here to analyse you first and then discuss the look you would like to achieve.
When it comes to weddings and formals, you want to be sure you’re picking a make-up look that makes your features shine (and that you won’t look back at photos and regret terribly). So, here are some of our favourite looks to consider:
All Natural
Take a page out of Meghan Markle’s book and let your natural features shine through, freckles and all. After all, do you really want to remember your big day looking like somebody completely different? Stick to natural, dewy foundation, earthy tones on the eyes and cheeks and a nude lip. Classic, sophisticated and effortlessly beautiful.
Glossy Lips
Glossy lips are fun and youthful and a nice change from matte lips. Go for lighter shades of pink or peach paired with a heavier eye. The best part is that glosses won’t stain your lips and can easily be topped up during the day.
Bold Lip
The classic bold lip is a great evening look that will never go out of fashion. Be careful not to go too heavy on the eyes if you’re going for a darker shade lip as it can be too much. Red is always classy, seductive and sexy.
Smoky eyes
Go the other way and complement a beautiful complexion with strong smoky eyes. Choose a delicate hue over the lids such as plum, rose or grey, paired with super long black lashes. This look goes best with a natural nude or pink lip to really draw the attention to your eyes.
Highlighting and Contouring
It’s all the rage at the moment and for good reason. It instantly boosts your glow and accentuates your best features. It is most typically done on the bridge of your nose, tops of cheekbones and inner corners of the eyes, making your face look sharper yet still natural. The best part is that it makes you appear more photogenic as additional structure pops on camera.
While it’s our duty that you leave the salon looking perfect, we are committed to making sure your look lasts all day and night. Follow these simple tips on how to touch up during the day so that your make-up lasts:
Always make sure your make-up artist primes your skin before foundation. Primer 'seals in' your moisturiser and provides a smooth, even surface for makeup. Apply to the entire face and eyelids.
For longevity, always seal your makeup with powder to help it stay put. Carry powder in your purse so that you can apply during the day and remove any excess oil.
Make sure your mascara is waterproof. Whether you think you will cry or not, think twice about false lashes as tears will lift them right off. Curl your own lashes with a volumising waterproof mascara instead.
Always carry a touch-up kit including blush, translucent powder, blotting wipes, tissues and a lip gloss that matches your lipstick.
Enjoy your big day!

Bridal Hair Countdown
Is your wedding day looming? Are you starting to put the final touches on how you want your hair and make-up? It’s never too early to start preparing to ensure you get the look you dream of.
Below we talk you through our recommendations and all the dos and don’ts leading up to your big day – what you need to plan in advance, what to prepare in lead up and what to do on the day itself.
Hair Trial
At least 5-6 months before your big day is the best to book in with one of our hair stylists for a trial. It’s a good idea to book your appointment in the morning so that you can see how the hair sits throughout the day and make adjustments from there. You never know, you might need extra product, pins, hairspray when it comes time for the real thing. Bring any images of your dress, head crowns and veils or simply have a rough idea on the look you want to go for.
Hair Colour
Decide what hair colour you want to be earlier as well. The last thing you want is a colour you don’t love the week of your big day, right? Know the colour you want 6 months before and then spend the next few months maintaining it. It also allows you time to experiment with us and make any minor colour and cut adjustments.
Maintenance
Within the 6 months leading up to your big day, be sure to maintain your hair with regular cuts and colours. Every 4-6 weeks is usually what we recommend to brides. Plan your final cut and colour 1-2 weeks before the day to leave time for it to settle. Always keep your hair in the best condition with weekly hair masks, treatments and nourishing hair oils. We can do this for you or our salon experts can recommend some great at-home treatments. During the months leading up to your big day, it’s important to keep in contact with your stylist. If anything changes for you, we need to know.
The Big Day
In terms of washing your hair, do whatever you did on the day of your trial to ensure the same results. Try to use the same products too. It’s a great idea to note down what shampoo, conditioner and styling products you used initially.
Ensure your bridesmaids are carrying styling tools such as bobby pins and hair spray in case you need any touch ups during the day. Our Kevin Murphy Session.Spray is a gloss and hold product in one, it keeps hair in place without the stiffness of traditional hairsprays, and lets you and your style shine all day long.
