Our team see a lot of different faces in the salon every day so we know what works, what doesn’t, and what’s going to best accentuate you! Face shapes are such an important consideration when cutting hair. Here’s a few reasons why…
Oval Face
Oval faces are blessed in that they can pull off just about any type of hairstyle, but they particularly look good with short hair. If you want to cover-up the length of your face, add some width to the sides of your face with layers or curls or balance it out with a fringe. Just be careful not to add anymore volume on top of the head as it can make you look a little too long.
Best cut: Blunt bobs and lobs with layers, long waves or curls.
Round Face
Round faces looks great with layers, especially around the front of the face. Up-do’s are great as well adding height to the face. Long hair that is one length can accentuate the roundness of the face so make sure you angle the front. Steer clear of bobs which can balloon around your face, and be mindful of big full curls which can also enhance the appearance of roundness.
Best cut: Layered cuts, pixie cuts, side fringes.
Heart Shape Face
Heart-shaped faces are wider up the top of your face and come to point at the chin. These faces look great with a fringe regardless of whether your hair is long or short. Short fringes or longer side-swept fringes and layer that fall around the cheeks are totally you! Similarly, curls below the ear, pixie cuts or bobs will ensure fullness around the jaw.
Best cut: Long side-swept cuts, waves or curls starting below the ear, pixie cuts, bobs and lobs.
Square Face
Square faces often have angular features, wide cheekbones, a strong jawline and so they photograph the best. Because of the sharpness, it’s better to go for a softer, layered cut or a swept side fringe. Steer clear of sharp-edge cuts or straight across fringes which can make you look extra boxy.
Best cut: Side-parted styles, long layers.
As for your facial features…
Big forehead
Similarly to the heart-shaped face, if you have a larger forehead, a fringe is the most flattering cut you can do.
Big nose
Avoid a centre part if you want to draw attention away from your nose. A side part or wearing your hair straight back is better.
